Day 71- Willing to Step UP

📝 Reflection

 2 Chronicles 22: 11

But Ahaziah’s sister Jehosheba, the daughter o f King Jehoram, took Ahaziah’s infant son, Jonah’s, and stole him away from among the rest of the king’s children, who were about to be killed. She put Jonah’s and his nurse i a bedroom. In this way, Jehosheba, wife of Jehoida the priest and sister of Ahaziah’s, hid the child so that Athaliah could not murder him.

As I continued reading 2 Chronicles I was noticing stories of people willing to step up even when it might be dangerous, unpopular or unlikely. During King Jehoshaphat’s reign Judah was about to go to war with the Moabites, Ammonites, and Menuites and as they were praying, fasting preparing the spirit of the Lord came upon a man named Jahaziel and he stood up and spoke to all of the people and encouraged them, saying that the Lord had told him to say ‘don’t be afraid, this is God’s battle not ours, when we march to battle we will find that we won’t even have to fight’. A lone voice in a crowd, a crowd that was overcome by fear of being defeated and what seemed impossible. He was willing to step up and speak.

In the scripture quoted above, we have another example of willingness to step up. Queen Athaliah was a mother out to avenge the death of her son King Ahaziah even to the extreme of killing her own grandchildren in her madness. This brave couple Jehosheba and Jehoida stepped in and saved the young baby Joash, who was in line to be the king and the only hope of saving the lineage of king David. The kept him hidden away and raised and protected him even at their own peril. Jehoida also coordinated an overthrow of Queen Athaliah and installing  Joash as King. Jehoida also continued to serve Joash as a faithful advisor until his death and he was buried with the kings in the City of David because he had done so much good in Judah.

So encouraging to read about these courageous people who were willing to step up and step in and be used by God in these situations. The key point here is that they also had to be willing.   God gives us free will. He will get his story told and get things done that he wants done, but he has also set it up so that he invites us to participate. Often times we get the message but then we block it with thoughts like ‘who me?’, ‘I can’t do that’, ‘I’m not important enough’, blah blah blah, and then we miss the opportunity and He moves on to look for the next willing person who not only hears the call but steps up.

✍🏼Daily Journal Prompt

What if the next time you heard the call or had the opportunity you were willing to do the thing, even if it was scary, intimidating, strange, or unpopular. I bet you will be surprised and encouraged about how good it will feel to know that not only do you matter but that you can make a difference. What has God been nudging to do or your own spirit that you have been doubting, ignoring, or procrastinating etc.. that you can activate your willingness and step up?
