Join me on my morning walk as we rise and shine together by walking through the Bible daily and learn a practical applicable coaching nugget from the ultimate life coach - our creator (whatever that means to you). No judgement zone here, all are welcome, we are all on a spiritual journey because we are after all spiritual beings having a human experience.

📝 Reflection

Jeremiah 9: 25-26

“A time is coming,” says the Lord, ‘when I will punish all those who are circumcised in body but not in spirit— the, Egyptians, Edomites, Ammonites, Moabites, the people who live in the desert in remote places, and yes, even the people of Judah. And like all these pagan nations, the people of Israel also have uncircumcised hearts.”

Ok, well this morning I needed a little help from the interwebs with the reference to circumcision of the heart and spirit. What is this all about?  It made me think of the struggle of being human and trying to figure out who we really are, what we are and why are we here?  The reference here is that we need to separate ourselves from our human or fleshly desires so that our hearts and spirits can be more in tune with God. Our flesh gets in the way and blocks this connection from happening fully.

Ok - so here we go - I am going to take you with me into my brain with a kind of humorous analogy that is helping me understand this. Lets start with the idea that our body is a vehicle that houses our heart and spirit. Now lets imagine that your car 🚖 becomes a living being. Imagine it sitting in your garage and it starts yelling to you or texting you asking you to take it out for a drive because it is bored, or maybe out for ice cream, out to Target because it is lonely and wants to socialize with the other cars.

I think this is the conundrum God has given us to figure out and what the Bible is here to help us ‘decode’. We are not our bodies or our brains. We are a conscious soul that has a body with a brain. He gave us a ‘talking car’ that has its own needs. We need to take care of it because we need it to go and do all of the things, and go all of the places etc.. It serves a purpose, but it is not THE purpose. This can be very confusing. So really close your eyes for a moment and imagine these two scenarios.

When you live from the reality that the car is a vehicle that is so helpful to you and helps you do more with your life, your time and your resources. You appreciate it and take care of it, you fuel it, you house it if you can, you maintain it and clean it. It takes you where you need to go and you want to take care of it. Now imagine a reality where it had its own agenda was demanding that you take it here, there and everywhere. You couldn’t be as productive with your life could you? You might even start to identify with your car and be consumed with its wants and desires. You might even start to feel ‘enslaved’ or held hostage by your car.

I hope this analogy will help you like it is helping me to see how my ‘car’ or body is driving me vs. me driving it. It is either a helpful ‘tool’ or it is hindering me and keeping me from recognizing ‘who I really am’ and reaching my full potential. Is it really taking me the places I want to go and more importantly where God wants me to go. Am I identifying it with it too much and confusing it with my identity vs. my identity in who created me, my true nature?  Does this make sense? We can circumcise our hearts and spirits by recognizing who is the driver and what is the vehicle!

✍🏼Daily Journal Prompt

Who are you? Have you thought of your true self being separate from your body? Is this a new concept for you? Whose in charge?
