Day 143 - Where do you stand

📝 Reflection 

 Ecclesiastes 11:3

   When clouds are heavy, the rains come down. Whether a tree falls north or south, it stays where it falls.

 

Where and what you are standing for when you die is how you will be remembered, for better or worse. That is something to really consider and think about. Your character is your character, like a tree. Are you standing/living in integrity and with good character?  You can’t necessarily control how or when you will die, but who you are when you die will speak for your life, your legacy, the impact you leave, and how people will remember you.

I have thought a lot about this. My father and his two brothers, my uncles all died from alcohol related suicide. I loved them all, and I think they all did some good things in their lives, but their deaths and how they died and the people they were at that time that made those choices is how they are often defined first. This makes me sad 😢. But this is the reality of how things are. When clouds are heavy the rains come down- that is just the way it is. 

For a long time, I actually used this sadness to think like Solomon did for awhile. It is all just meaningless, what does it all matter, just live, have fun, just be kind to others, live a nice comfortable life etc.. It kept me in ‘the shallows’ of life. I mistook their despair and choices for depth. So I stayed out of those shark infested waters. 

I have done a lot of internal soul work and healing around this, thanks to God and His word that is living, dynamic and healing ❤️‍🩹. I still love these three men and I know they were doing the best they could with what they knew and with what they had been taught and role modeled. We are all people of influence, teacher and role models whether we ‘want’ to be or not. It is just the way it is. 

So what will your tree of life, character, integrity say about you at the time of your ‘fall’.  Is this what you want it to say? Do you care? Does it matter? Have you been impacted similarly as I have, maybe not specifically by suicide but by someone who didn’t fall in good character. Trees cast a shadow even when they fall. How can you choose how to be impacted by it? If we have breath in our lungs there is still time to work on this and change this from either perspective.
