📝 Reflection

  Jeremiah 46: 28

Do not be afraid, Jacob my servant, for I am with you,” declares the Lord. “I will completely destroy the nations to which I have exiled you, but I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you, but with justice; I cannot not let you go unpunished.”

I almost titled today ‘It gets worse before it gets better’, but I thought that might not be very inspiring. The last several chapters of Jeremiah are all about Jeremiahs messages of the coming destruction of the nations. After you have seen the writing on the wall and you take a breath after trying to rush the process and force things before their time, you may feel overwhelmed and under siege.

This is normal, don’t quit!!  Creating new neural pathways and a new sense of identity feels very violent at times. Parts of the ‘old’ you and the new you can’t co-exist. What got you here won’t get you there. You have plenty of evidence of this probably even going back to childhood. The only constant in life is change. As we want to grow in new skills, endeavors, goals, relationships we won’t be able to keep up if we don’t embrace change, newness and simultaneously we need to release and let go of that which doesn’t serve us anymore.

Those parts of you don’t want to be let go of or released. So it will feel a bit like we are laying seige to parts of ourself. There also may be people in your life that may also feel like they are being forced to change, being left behind or threatened. We need to reassure ourselves and others like the passage above. Have faith, don’t be afraid, persist and expect the resistance. The discipline of change is awful and awesome all at the same time and the awful will lead to awesome. Forge ahead in your becoming!

✍🏼Daily Journal Prompt

What in your life needs to change but feels so hard that it is almost violent in a way? Can you see that what got you here is not what will get you there?
