📝 Reflection 

Isaiah 3: 10

Tell the godly that all will be well for them. They will enjoy the rich reward they have earned!

 

The human condition is like a broken record right? Here we go again.. the humans get off track ‘tuned out’ from God and tuned into the world and other sources of ‘truth’. This leads to pride and egos getting inflated and people getting full of themselves and conceited etc.. . Well known Proverb 16:18 and often quoted ‘pride comes before a fall’. 

So lets explore how this happens. I think a good analogy is old fashioned radio 📻 stations and and signals. When we are tuned in to God’s station we can hear it, we listen to it, it guides us and things in general go well for us because we are dialed in and in alignment with our creator.  This station though has a very specific frequency and a short range - we have to be in proximity and on this narrow station to be tuned in, takes a lot of time, intention and effort. As we are driving down the highway of life we pick up lots of stations with very strong and load signals. 

There is a lot of ‘noise’ out there and a lot of choices of stations to be tuned into. Some of them even ‘sound like’ God’s station. We decide to listen and the signal is loud and strong and we can be convinced that we are on the right station. Many of us are trying so hard to, we are diligent and hard workers and striving to be godly but if we aren’t tuned in to His station we can easily get so caught up in our efforts that we succumb to pridefulness. 

I love that the scripture here uses the word godly or in some translations righteous, because I think many Christian’s can go in the other direction and be so afraid of becoming prideful that they focus on characteristics like humble, modest and meek. Well I can be very humble with out being godly or righteous. Humbleness for the sake of humbleness asks us to think ‘less’ of ourselves. God doesn’t ask of to think ‘less’ of ourselves. He asks us to think of ourselves ‘less’.  If we think ‘less’ of ourselves, then we consequently think less of him. When we think of ourselves less in the ‘right’ way, it allows us to think more of Him and for his thoughts to become our thoughts - it opens us up in the best way. When we think less of ourselves- we shut down this signal and exchange because we think we don’t matter.

So too much pride and too much ‘humble’ness also leaves God out and the signal becomes distorted. When we are tuned in, we have the potential and conditions to be ‘right’ for us to achieve the correct amount of pride and humbleness. When we are tuned it, it allows us to be more in alignment with His will and He will help us have the appropriate ‘mix’ and amount of character ingredients to keep us in wisdom and living a life to our potential for His glory. 

There is always this x-factor though, which is free will and our hearts ♥️. That is what he wants - our whole hearts.  We have to be willing to do this and we have to do the work to tune in and stay tuned in. We are each responsible for our own hearts and begin tuned in, are you trusting someone else with this, do you know if they are tuned in?

Yesterday’s scripture from Isaiah 1:3 is also appropriate for this message “Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master’s care- Israel doesn’t know its master, My people don’t recognize my care for them” also coming up in the New Testament in John 10:27 when Jesus says “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me.”
