📝 Reflection
Genesis: 2:24. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, they shall become one flesh.
So yesterday I introduced two ideas that we can glean wisdom from the scriptures about and apply to our transformation journeys, the kings scroll guidelines and the marriage principle. I think the Marriage principle is powerful enough to go deeper into and have some dedicated reflection time on its own. In marriage the idea is that two individuals come together and have a fundamental identity shift each within in themselves individually and then together in order create this new thing we call a family. At least this is the intent and underlying principle. I know in our modern world the attitudes towards marriage and reality of marriage is much different so stick with me stay focused on the idea and principle. The intent of the principle is one that we can use in a very practical way when we are wanting to make a change within our selves at an identity level.
And if you are not married, or you haven’t had a loving marriage, you likely have someone in your life that you respect or love that is, and you can apply the principle from this perspective to yourself - so again stick with me on the intent of the principle itself. The point I want drive home is that with the marriage principle we have evidence and proof that we have within us the capability to ‘drive a stake in the ground’ and make an identity shift in a moment of decision and serious ‘all in’ commitment. We let go of our old identity and embrace our new one and create a new family unit.
The saying ‘drive a stake in the ground’ come from a real example. The native Americans when they were in battle and it looked like defeat was imminent would actually drive a steak in the ground and tie someone to it so that they would have to stay there and defend that piece of ground to the death. Pretty dramatic example, I know. We also drive stakes in the ground to this very day to mark boundaries of property. When you put that ring on your finger 💍- you drive a metaphorical stake in the ground, you have created a new identity - two people changing individually and become one and united and committed 100% to BE something new, a family. The ring is a boundary marker and reminder. You commit before God and witnesses and sign legal documents etc.. It is a big deal that takes serious and unwavering commitment.
Take time to reflect about this potential that You have access to within yourself. The marriage principal is evidence that it is possible for you to make such a big and immediate identity shift. One day you are dating and flirting with many people then maybe you get engaged, but when the marriage ceremony comes and the ring is placed on your finger - boom 💥you change instantly.

What allows that to happen? What can you tap into about that and apply to something that you want to change in your life and commit to that you are just ‘dating’ or ‘flirting’ with? Maybe you’ve gotten engaged to the idea (90% committed), but not sure if you want to be 100% committed for life? What would need to happen for you to know that you want to be married to ‘your new identity’ your new lifestyle and create your ‘new self’? What do you need to let go of that is keeping you in the land of just ‘dating’ or being ‘engaged’ to your new identity? How can you become ‘one flesh’ with or ‘unite’ your ‘current self’ and your ‘desired identity’ or ‘new and better self’ that you know you have the potential to be?
