Day 66- Shelter in the Storm

📝 Reflection

 2 Kings 22: 19 -20

“You were sorry and humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I said against this city and its people- that this land would be cursed and become desolate. You tore your clothing in despair and wept before me in repentance. And I have indeed heard you, says the Lord.  So I will not send the promised disaster until after you have died and been buried in peace. You will not see the disaster I am going to bring on this city.”

So they took her message back to the king.

Well as I am typing this it is storming, and God literally provides a message of hope of providing shelter in the storm ⛈.  I don’t know about you, but I had some relational storms last week and still feel like I am in them. As an enneagram 9w1 a peacemaker with a heavy leaning towards perfectionism, any hint of relationship trouble feels like a storm to me, and it can be exhausting. Something I am working on changing and learning to lean into healthy conflict, it is not easy, but I am trusting the process and doing it anyway. As I went to be outside during the sunrise this morning, I found a shelter I could be under and still witness the day beginning even though I couldn’t literally seen the sun because of the clouds and storms, I could feel it and still be present to it’s effects.

Anyhoo, back to our bible takeaways of the day. After Hezekiah dies, the subsequent kings go right back to their evil ways and doing bad stuff in the sight of the Lord.  But then along comes King Josiah. He himself provides a shelter in the storm that is coming for Jerusalem and its people. He is faithful, in fact in chapter 23 v25 it says ‘Never before had there been a king like Josiah, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and soul and strength, obeying all the laws of Moses. And there has never been a king like him since.’  Despite Josiah’s goodness and sincere efforts to restore the city and the temple we learn that it is too little too late. God has already declared his judgement and verdict, Jerusalem will be wiped out completely. But he does provide shelter through and because of Josiah’s faithfulness, repentance and integrity.

Integrity is one of my core values that I personally strive for, it drives me, it is my why underneath all of my why’s. I see this value being lived out in Josiah, he didn’t just talk the talk he walked the walk, he honored God and God honored him and provided a shelter of a peaceful period in the coming storm. It didn’t stop the storm, but it provided a peace for Josiah which radiated out. We learn that Josiah wipes out everything that is against God, every last bit of pagan worship, pychics, mediums, idols, priests houses of worship, everything! Early in his reign he hired carpenters, builders and masons to restore the temple, it says he even trusted them with his money, indicating that he had a good relationship with them, one built on integrity.  He brought God’s priests back to their positions in Jerusalem, he rediscovers and reads the Book of the Law and he renews the covenant in the Lords’ presence and pledges to obey all His commands.  He also celebrates Passover, which had not been done since the time of the Judges.

✍🏼Daily Journal Prompt

Don’t you know when you are dealing with some one with integrity, don’t you feel the effects of it ripple out?  Are you living with integrity?  It is not always easy but it does provide a shelter of inner peace and clarity in the midst of the storms of life that are inevitable. This strength and peace often ripples out and benefits others around you as well. Maybe you have integrity in some areas of your life but not others, this can create a storm within. How can you reflect and apply this analogy to yourself currently?
