📝 Reflection
John 2: 1-5
The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”
“Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” …
I couldn’t help but smile at this scene. I imagined myself being a fly on the wall. I love that Mary was traveling with her son and was valued as an important part of his growing ministry. I can also imagine that raising him was a pretty interesting adventure and she probably got to see what he was capable of as he grew. I also love that in her motherly wisdom she did not instruct, nag or even suggest directly that he should do something about the dwindling wine supply. She simply knew that he could do something if he wanted and let him know about the developing situation. So wise, but he knew what she was hinting at.
It is interesting that he responded to her and said it was not time yet, but yet… Jesus even though fully God he was also fully human and he respected his earthly mother. His ultimate trust was in in father and his father chose his mother for a reason! 😉 She demonstrated her heart for the Lord from before Jesus inception or conception. He was the product of the wisest creator of life, love and wisdom itself and a very wise and lovely human woman.
We all need motherly wisdom in our lives. Women are endowed with very special qualities and intuition and a wise godly woman is precious to have in your corner. This I know can be a sensitive topic for some. You may not have a good relationship with your earthly mother, you may not have been able to bear children of your own. There are many women out there who can be spiritual mothers. We all have wisdom and life experience to share. Seek a spiritual mother and also become one. If Jesus heeded his mother’s wisdom, shouldn’t we also?
