📝 Reflection
Luke 13: 1-3
About this time Jesus was informed that Pilate had murdered some people from Galilee as they were offering sacrifices at the Temple. “Do you think those Galileans were worse sinners than all the other people fro Galilee?” Jesus asked. “Is that why they suffered? Not at all! And you will perish, too, unless you repent of your sins and turn to God.
Time, time, time we as humans always think we have more time. Really though it comes down to priorities. We often spend time and prioritize our ‘could’ do’s vs. our ‘should’ do’s. You might be reading this and thinking ‘she doesn’t know what she is talking about’. Maybe you do understand and you don’t like hearing it. That is ok, I don’t either. As humans we as usual have our priorities out of whack when we consider God’s economy and kingdom. We are living under tremendous pressure from external responsibilities and internal responsibilities from our human worldly point of view. So how do we navigate this tension.
Jesus and God are pretty clear. Top priorities that we ‘should’ not be procrastinating on; love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. Also, within this is to trust and have faith that your heavenly Father will provide the means for your physical needs to be met. Everything else are ‘could do’s’. When we put our energy and efforts to the things that matter from eternal perspective we put the other aspects of life in their proper position and order of priority. Then they begin to lose their hold and their power over us. This is freedom, this is his kingdom come on earth. In the example of Martha and Mary, we were reminded of this. Martha was making her ‘could dos’ her ‘should dos’ and missing her opportunity to sit at Jesus’s feet with her sister, instead she was so caught up in it she was getting mad at her sister and thinking it was unfair that she had to do all the work. But she didn’t this was her perspective problem and her own priorities being out of whack.
I know I have spent a lot of time beating myself up about procrastinating on things in the past and still do today. Coulda, woulda, shoulda … I am working on getting my priorities straight and learning to see that the long list of things that I would like to get done is my ‘can do’ once I get my ‘must do’s’ done. I try to do my best everyday, some days are better than others. Each day is a new day and his mercies are new everyday. I am slowly getting my priorities straight and if I should die before I wake, I have confidence that I will be dancing in heaven for eternity.
We never know when our time will come, we live in a world with other humans who make evil decisions, with war, disease and natural disasters. We all die, 100%, even humble, honorable faithful people die unexpected in these events, so lets not procrastinate on what matters most. Work out your salvation and God will help you meet your needs, obligations and responsibilities and you will even get extra blessings in the process that you can use to bless others with. These blessings are not guaranteed to be material blessings. Your beingness and spirit will be blessed and enhanced so much that others will be blessed to be in your presence, you become the light that is on the table lighting up your corner of the world, not covered up by the weight of the world and your own worldly pursuits. This experience of life is worth not procrastinating on, you might just experience heaven on earth!
