Nahum 1: 15
Look! A messenger is coming over the mountains with good news! He is bringing a message of peace. Celebrate your festivals, O people of Judah, and fulfill all your vows, for your wicked enemies will never invade your land again. They will be completely destroyed!
This morning as I read, re-read, prayed, pondered and meditated on Nahum, I was coming up empty. But I headed to the park anyway, trusting that God would provide a message right on time. Interestingly he used my ‘I’ve got nothing’ feeling for my good and for a purpose! He is so good that way. In my unsureness, I took extra time this morning getting out the door. God used the unfolding of my morning to illuminate this passage above.
Most days I am out of the door before my husband wakes up. Because of this extra time, my husband was up and we had a chance to say good morning and have a little chit chat, which is always nice. Now the last few days have been the first few days of my following through on a new vow I have made to myself, going straight to the gym after my daily morning walk and talk video. It is currently also the summer and very hot right now. I had been pondering how I was still going to get all of this done and also still get my beloved doggos out for their daily walk before it got too hot. As usually I didn’t ask for help even though I live with three other capable people, partly because it is something I also enjoy so much.
But, the truth of the matter is when you are starting something new that needs dedicated focus, attention and time you probably need help at least for the short term and at the beginning. As I was heading out my husband asked if I minded if he walked the dogs this morning. 🤯 As I am working on adding more to my mornings and making them more productive he is conversely working on slowing his mornings down because he tends to focus solely on productivity. So he was trying to help himself to doing and activity that I normally do and was actually worried that I might not want him to do this. I very gratefully said yes, as I had been worried about how I was going to get it all done especially on such a hot day. Win win😎!
This is often how God works, he is sending help so you can follow through on your vows. If he gave you the desire to make the vow he will send help for you to fulfill it! Because he is so amazing, he waits on the timing to be just right. I have been thinking of doing this for a long time and been working on my commitment and fortitude to aligned so that I could follow through, and while he was helping me work on this, he was simultaneously helping my husband to work on something he was desiring, but he needed extra support and help with too!
Win win win! We also both need to learn thought to ask for help and express our needs though, we are both strong, ambitious and fiercly independent and often don’t ask for help. I think I am going to go chat with him about this now, and express my gratitude and share my heart and reflection.
