 Day 93- Gratitude is Nourishing

📝 Reflection

 Psalm 50: 9-14

“… But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens. For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it. Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High.  Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”

Wow - God really gave me a 💡 moment this morning in my 💖and 🧠. I have never really stopped to think about God needing any nourishment. We don’t think of God ‘needing’ anything, especially in the physical sense the way we often think of ‘needs’. But maybe he is nourished by somethings, particularly our attitude of gratitude. He is often referred to as love itself. When we think of love, what kind of environment does love grow and thrive in? One where gratitude and thanksgiving is present and abundant.

Just yesterday I had a personal reminder of this. We were in the car traveling and had to pass through hours of heavy storms, not just rain but heavy downpours, straight line winds, lightning and the whole nine yards. Very stressful to say the least and required a lot of focus and concentration. There was a moment rather several moments that a car passing by caused water to be splashed on to our car causing complete blindness and I was driving and in the middle lane surrounded on all sides by other cars. I was able to stay calm and not freak out or make any sudden erratic movements with the car and eventually the water splashing stopped and vision was returned. I had been praying during this trip for God’s protection and provision and expressing gratitude for safe passage as we had a car load of passengers and other mom’s kids in my car that I was responsible for. I think, no, I KNOW that God showed up for me in that moment and took over driving that car, it was a moment of His super being added to my natural. 🙏

Anyway, at dinner later that night after we did in fact arrive safely, my husband took the time to express gratitude to me for how I handled that specific moment. That was so nourishing to me to receive that and be appreciated. Can you think of a moment that someone expressed their gratitude for you and how that made you feel? Maybe you don’t receive gratitude well and downplay or minimize it?  Have you noticed how you feel when you are grateful for someone, something, or a situation? Do you take time to notice this?

There is a real science to gratitude. For us humans really feeling into gratitude for at least 10 seconds can give us up to six hours to good chemicals in our brain and body. I call this the daily D.O.S.E., Dopamine, Oxytocin and and Seratonin. I feed myself this kind of chemical cocktail now, rather than something that steals my gratitude and causes in me a negative attitude via hangovers and regrets. JoMO, the joy of missing out on dealing with the consequences of ingesting poison. Seems like a pretty good return on our investment right? When we are feeling good it ripples out too, right? We have a three foot electromagnetic field that radiates from our heart. Think about this - what kind of energy are you running off of and what kind of energy are you feeding others? I am so grateful everyday for my sober-minded lifestyle and how that helps me show up so much better in my life, for God, for myself, for my loved ones, my clients, and for life and love itself!

✍🏼Daily Journal Prompt

So it also begs the question, if we are made in God’s image, doesn’t He also get nourished by our energy fields? Are you nourishing Him with your attitude of gratitude or your attitude of stress, frustration, anger, sadness, etc..?  There is always, always, always something to be grateful for, and it is a choice. If you are struggling to find something to be grateful for, can you imagine yourself running from bombs right now and leaving everything you know behind? Can you imagine not having breath in your lungs, electricity, running water, a body, a mind that can even think of things to complain about? I am going to think about my own attitude of gratitude a little differently now. God needs it, Love needs it, I need it, you need it, we all need it!  Gratitude is essential for being nourished and live in a thriving way. Think about it, experiment with it, share how it resonated with you today?
