Join me on my morning walk as we rise and shine together by walking through the Bible daily and learn a practical applicable coaching nugget from the ultimate life coach - our creator (whatever that means to you). No judgement zone here, all are welcome, we are all on a spiritual journey because we are after all spiritual beings having a human experience.

📝 Reflection

 Matthew 26: 33-35

Peter declared, “even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you.” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter - this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” “No!” Peter insisted. “Even if I have to dies with you, I will never deny you!” And all the other disciples vowed the same.

I am going to do my best to articulate what was being ‘spoken’ to me this morning after reading and meditating on Matthew 26. First the word forge came to mind. Then my mind saw the word forget - forge is in forget. Interestingly in studying the root of the words, they are not related, but to me they seem obviously related. Forge has a lot of interesting meanings and uses. So does forget. Here are the definitions from Websters:

Forge:

1 a furnace or shop with its furnace where metal is heated and rough

2. A workshop where wrought iron is produced or where iron is made malleable

3. To form by heating and hammering

4. To form by mechanical or hydraulic press with or without heat

5. To make or imitate falsely especially with the intent to defraud

6. To for or bring into being especially by an expenditure of effort

Forget:

  1. to lose the remembrance of, be unable to think of,
  2. cease form doing, to treat with inattention or disregard,
  3. to disregard intentionally,
  4. to give up hope for or expectation of,
  5. to cease remembering or noticing,
  6. to fail to become mindful at the proper time,
  7. to lose one’s dignity, temper or self control

There is a lot we can dig into and go deep with with these two words even in one chapter of the Bible. I think Jesus intentionally allows his disciples to get into situations where they will forget their divine assignment, authority and potential and ‘slip’ back into their human and very limited and fearful thinking and then uses it to teach them to forge their conviction and strengthen their belief and faith.  Later in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus asks Peter, John and James to (v41) “keep watch and pray so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing but the body is weak!"

I think through these stories and the example we can be encouraged in the same way. There is no way humans can be perfect, it is impossible. Peter, James and John fell asleep because they could’t keep their eyes open. He has to wake them up because the time had come for him to be betrayed and handed over to his accusers.  Peter’s later deny’s (forgets) Jesus just as he predicted. When the rooster crowed Peter had a ‘forging’ moment when realized what he had done. Rather than wallowing in shame and sending himself further into forgetfulness it was a galvanizing moment for him, it helped forge him into the ‘rock’ that the church would be founded on.

God can use our forgetfulness to forge our faith as well if we allow it. There is a willingness that has to be there. He will not force the forging. He also will not force us into waking up, he will allow us to fall asleep to our true nature, identity and power. We have to be willing, put in the effort and claim it. It is our divine birthright that is developed and forged on a daily basis to ‘wake up’ and feed on the word of truth to daily forget our humanness and wake up to our diving nature. We are spiritual beings having a human experience - our humanness wants to fall asleep to our divinity because it is work and effort and we have to submit our flesh to a higher calling vs. satisfying its desires. As humans it is impossible, but with God all things are possible. As you start to wake up, you will learn that it actually make being human better!! Life becomes a divine adventure.

My prayer is that the Holy Spirit was downloading this today as I hope it does everyday, but today in particular I felt a personal awakening and a forgetting and a forging taking place with in me. You know that state of a lucid dream, where you force yourself to wake up. Where you know you have a choice, you are aware you are asleep and dreaming but you also know you are partially awake and can consciously choose to wake up or fall back asleep. That is what I am feeling personally right now.. a moment of recognition. The rooster crowing…
