📝 Reflection
This week we celebrated Martin Luther King day. I can’t help but be inspired by him and all that he stood for and was willing to DO even if…! Even if it meant he became martyred, even if he was misunderstood, hated, maligned, jailed etc… He knew who he was, he knew his calling, he knew whose he was, and who was directing his steps and destiny. This is a quote from his letter from jail: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.”
What are you willing to do even if….?
Who are you willing to be even if…..?
What are you willing to stand for even if…..?
This is a great question to ask yourself. This can help you solidify your commitment to things you say that you desire to have and/or do. It can also help you realize what is a desire vs. a must, and maybe even let go of some desires to focus on your must’s! A lot of us go around saying and believing that we really want certain things, but if we engage in this practice of asking our selves even if….? Then we might gain some clarity and even take action in certain areas or stop spending energy on thinking that we want certain things when we really don’t because we aren’t willing to deal with the even if…. consequences of going down that path.
We can look to people like Dr. King who put their ‘money where their mouth was’ and went ALL IN even if….? Because of this we are living in a country that is still profoundly being impacted by his ‘even if’ commitment to civil rights. We still have a long way to go Dr. King, but we have come so far because you had a dream and you went all in, so that we may all see each other as people created in the image of God and judgement by the content of their character not by the color of their skin. Thank you!
I personally have used this ‘even if…’ question to anchor⚓️ into my ‘why’ to make lots of changes in my life, that started with putting down the wine glass #forthehealtofit and become a healthy free person. One who can lead by example and show her young adult children that drinking is not something you just automatically do just because everyone else is and ‘it is what adults do’, someone who can keep working on being the change she wants to see in the world until her last breath, who can go hike the Grand Canyon if she wants etc, who will spread the good news of Christ, which is the gospel of Love, not just by words but by how I live, serve and love others…
I love the quote from Dr. King above because it reminds me that no woman is an island, nothing and no one stands alone, we are interconnected. If you think your health and your choices to you make concerning your health and your choice to drink are not affecting anyone, think again! There are people depending on you and whose destiny is affected by the choices you make or don’t make. Time to rise and shine together so that we can all be who God created us to be even if…
