📝 Reflection 

Revelation 22: 14-17

“Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life. Outside the city are the dogs—the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.”

Well the final chapter of the final book of this library of books called the Bible did not disappoint! There is beautiful imagery that I think represents the human body and God’s relationship to us. We are intertwined, God lives in us through the experience of love and light. Again, I recommended reading the whole chapter for yourself first so that you will hopefully track with me as we discuss.

The chapter starts off with the picture of a crystal clear river of water flowing through the center of the main street, God and his lamb are sitting on the throne, there is a tree of life on either side of the river, we are reminded again that there is no night and no need for a sun, for our light comes from God shining upon us. 

God communicates to use through our minds and when we internalize these thoughts they become the ‘living word’. They travel down from the mind through the body and get incorporated into our cells. The lungs- I believe are the ‘trees of life’ referred on either side of the river. They breathe in the oxygen mixed with water, send it to the heart to create oxygenated blood and then travels back through the body back through the lungs and heart to exhale the gases we don’t need. It is quite miraculous. 

Our thoughts become life as they mix with air and water to create blood that nourishes our body and nervous system. We think of our thought life as just being something that happens in the brain, but it is everything. It is a whole intelligence system working together; mind body and spirit. Our thoughts, beliefs and emotions have a direct impact on how our body functions and contributes to our overall health or dis-ease. This isn’t ‘woo-woo’ stuff, the scientific, psychological and medical community knows this and acknowledges it, this is why they have to run double blind and placebo tests on new protocols. 

Ok, so now lets move to the scriptures I have pulled out and referenced here today. ‘Blessed are those who wash their robes’. I think robes here are talked about our thoughts and beliefs. The ones we wear and dress ourselves in. They need to be ‘clean’. This also helps us make sense of why there are references throughout scripture of why the blood of Jesus cleanses us. 

We cleanse ourselves by living out our beliefs and thoughts, they aren’t just head knowledge, which is useless and leaves us ‘dirty’. Our behavior aligns with our beliefs. Behavior in a sense becomes our savior, behaving like Jesus, by living ‘the way’. 

Jesus is the source of David and the heir. The name David means beloved. David was known as a man after God’s own heart. He knew God’s love for him personally, he believed it whole heartedly. This was reflected in his life, he lived boldly and freely and audaciously in that love. It did not mean he always behavior perfectly, he was definitely and imperfectly human.  He loved God back, so he understood that with the freedom came great responsibility. To do his best and repent and humble himself and correct his behavior when he got off track. 

We can’t game the system. I think the reference to the so called ‘dogs’ referenced are those that are trying to find a short cut, to game the system. There are laws that govern this world and consequences for behavior. When we humble our selves, surrender and make ourselves a slave to love and God’s laws we will have free access to drink freely from the water of life. It will flow more freely. We won’t be constricting it with our own behavior, thoughts and beliefs. 

When you believe 100% that you are fully loved as is, fully known, fully seen, fully valued, fully heard, doesn’t that lead to a sense of freedom? To believe is to fully know in your beingness that something is true and it is therefor reflected in your life. The name of Jesus means ‘the lord is salvation’ or ‘savoir’. Another word often used for salvation in the scripture is also liberation. Imagine what humans can do when they understand and believe that they are fully loved and liberated from the things of this world that constrict and cause fear? Free but also understand that their freedom comes at a great cost and they willing submit and limit their freedom for the greater good, to serve their brothers and sisters? This is a new heaven and a new earth. 

Belief comes before being loved which comes before being free. 

Believe ➡️ Be loved ➡️ Be Free!  Jesus is the source and the heir of love. It is a cycle that amplifies and magnifies itself. It bears fruit and life and light. It satisfies the thirsty with living water, from within. So within ➡️ So without. So above ➡️ So below.  What you believe is self affirming, reality is within and reflected without. What you see without will re-inforce what you believe. Choose wisely, behave wisely, you will create a personal hell or heaven- or just a ‘meh’ ok or even good life, but you will miss out on heaven on earth. You don’t have to wait for it somewhere ‘out’ there or after this life. 

Well this is a wrap!! We have finished the whole bible! Congratulations! You have become the living word, the living home of the holy spirit, the holy temple, the city on the hill, the bright morning star! Thanks for joining me on this adventure of reading, meditating, reflecting, becoming nourished by the word. I hope it has been as life giving, life changing and radically humbling for you as it has been for me. Be still and know .. that you are loved more than the universe, that you are free,  and now go spread some light and love to others! We live in a parched and thirsty world!

✍🏼Daily Journal Prompt 

 What do you believe? Do you believe that you are loved, just as you are?  God isn't asking anyone for a cleaned up version before accepting his unconditional overwhleming love. When you believe and you allow the truth that you are his beloved just as much as Jesus or David was, just as much as anyone who has every lived and will live, he will come in and start cleaning house! You will humbly and gladly submit to the process. If you haven't yet then you don't quite believe it fully and that is ok. Keep praying 'lord I believe, but help me with my unbelief.' Spend quiet time with him, getting to know his spirit, let your spirit begin to get nourished, it takes time, but eventually you will know through the stillness. BTW, stillness can take place while moving, so can silence happen even in the noise, it is an internal state of being, but it is best cultivated alone and withdrawing from the world. Jesus role modeled this in the way.
