Revelation 11: 3-5, 11-12
'And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will be clothed in burlap and will prophesy during those 1,260 days.” These two prophets are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of all the earth. If anyone tries to harm them, fire flashes from their mouths and consumes their enemies. This is how anyone who tries to harm them must die. But after three and a half days, God breathed life into them, and they stood up! Terror struck all who were staring at them. Then a loud voice from heaven called to the two prophets, “Come up here!” And they rose to heaven in a cloud as their enemies watched. '
As the visions continue this section of the book to me is pretty clearly talking about Jesus. The two prophets each represented by an olive tree and a lamptstand. God is a trine being and Jesus was fully human and fully divine, so he also had the trinity within. His nature was one of multiples.
As I think of the human body and what makes us human, is our consciousness and our consciousness is brought to life by language. Language and consciousness are not possible without a mind and breath. So when you look at these visions like riddles to be solved. I see the lamp stand as representing our minds and consciousness and the olive trees as our life breath and lungs.
Have you ever looked at a close up picture of lungs? The look eerily similar to trees. Isn’t that so cool that God placed the design of what brings us the breath of life into the design of the organs that process that and then breathe out chemicals that trees use live. So within so without. The cycle of life. The light that we get in from the sun helps us see images that our brain processes into visions and thoughts, which we then express in language. The living world.
The other clues that this chapter is talking about Jesus is the amount of time of his ministry, about 3 and a half years. Then the ‘prophets’ are taken out and killed by the beast from the ‘pit’ and they are dead for 3 and a half days before being resurrected. After Jesus is resurrected he left the gift of the Holy Spirit behind for us all.
This gift allows us to be fully human and also access an aspect of divinity within. This is a triple threat of power. When we can get our spirit inline with the Holy Spirt combined with our mind, body and soul, watch out!! We are a threat to our enemies within and without. Also included in this vision is the Temple, we also know that when Jesus died and was resurrected that we each became a holy temple.
At the end of this chapter we are given this final clue: Then, in heaven, the Temple of God was opened and the Ark of his covenant could be seen inside the Temple. Lightning flashed, thunder crashed and roared, and there was an earthquake and a terrible hailstorm.’ I immediately thought about our hearts, when we finally get inline with our triune, divine and spiritual nature and operations in the full experience of God’s love, our heart is activated in a new way. Maybe our hearts are the ‘Ark’ of his covenant, when His laws are written on our hearts as Paul talked about in Romans and Hebrews.
It takes time to get ‘synched’ up and get powered up in the fullness of your tri-demensional existence. But it is the best most productive use of your time and energy. Like Abe Lincoln once said: “If I only had an hour to chop down a tree, I would spend the first 45 minutes sharpening my axe.’ This is how we should think about our time with God and our spiritual lives.
