📝 Reflection
Revelation 7: 1-3, 15-17
'Then I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds so they did not blow on the earth or the sea, or even on any tree. And I saw another angel coming up from the east, carrying the seal of the living God. And he shouted to those four angels, who had been given power to harm land and sea, “Wait! Don’t harm the land or the sea or the trees until we have placed the seal of God on the foreheads of his servants.”
“That is why they stand in front of God’s throne and serve him day and night in his Temple. And he who sits on the throne will give them shelter. They will never again be hungry or thirsty; they will never be scorched by the heat of the sun. For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”'
To me opening up and reading chapter seven was like a breath of fresh air. It reminded me of ‘be still and know’. Holding back the four winds and instructing that there is to be no harm and placing the seal on the foreheads of his servants…. Don’t your shoulders just relax a bit reading this. This is very metaphorical, when we can take our thoughts captive, or just stop them for a moment, take a deep breath and choose higher thoughts to come in.
This the power and intelligence of human consciousness when it is alignment with God. You can slow down, stop the thoughts and emotions from blowing around, pause and then choose.
Shift into neutral, evaluate and respond vs. react. As I was walking this morning I practiced this myself. It is very cold right now and it was even lightly snowing as the sun was rising. In my reactive auto pilot self, I find myself complaining about the cold. Why is that?
I paused and reflected and chose to enjoy the feeling of coldness on my cheeks, to just be with it without judgement. It is just a circumstance. It is cold outside. Beyond that I get to choose my thoughts about it which then in turn lead to my feelings, which influence my actions and the result that I then experience. This is like my own internal life-giving water rather that being scorched by my negative thoughts and feelings that I almost slid into about the cold.
We get so comfortable in our normal lives that anything outside of it we can automatically judge negatively. We are kind of like perpetual Goldilocks, always looking for just right experiences. What if.. everything is just right? As Byron Katie reminds us, how do you know that something is supposed to happen or be the way it is? Because it is. When we love what is we don’t suffer, not only do we not suffer but we experiencing life giving water. We are at one with God, we are at one with Love, we are at one with life and light itself.
The image of the throne and the Lamb is interesting as well. In order to get to the highest place, the throne of God we must humble ourselves and see ourselves as we truly are. Like lambs. Lambs need a shepherd. We have the most loving shepherd who exists for the purpose of taking care of His flock. How fortunate are we, but like most lambs we wander off and get ourselves into all kinds of trouble. Here is a little humor for you:
