Revelation 1: 8
'“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.” '
The alpha and omega are references to the timelessness of God. We experience time in a linear fashion, but God does not. He is the creator of it all, so he exists outside of it. In this book we are going to experience a lot of interesting perspective and be brought into visions and dreams. In this first book we are off to the race with a big vision that John shares with us that includes Jesus in royal robes, bronze feet, a glowing face, snow white hair, fire eyes, a double edged sword tongue, starts in his hand and standing in surrounded by lamp stands.
I think the fact that Jesus appears to him in royal robes and in glorious splendor is fascinating. Because he came to earth opposite in appearance. This really struck me as significant. A reminder that what we experience is not what it appears to be. So with this in mind, many on earth expected something like what John sees in his vision of what a King would look like when he came to earth. Instead we got a simple human, born in a manger, raised simply, became a carpenter, rode a donkey, ate with the poor and the outcast. And yet in his true form he is the king of all kings.
He came to teach us to ‘see’ differently not just with our eyes, but with our hearts, with our spiritual eyes. One of the promises that he makes is eternal life through belief in him. We need to see time differently, I think, to understand what that means. I have been thinking a lot about this for months now and I think when we are fully in the now, we are experiencing eternity. One of the main things that Jesus role modeled was his complete ability to be present, unruffled, and unhurried as he moved through the world.
Think about this with me, all that ever exists is now. As humans we spend most of our time thinking about the past and the future, we miss the now. Love is now, it is not in the future. We miss so much, or at least I know I have and still do. But I am really practicing developing the ability to be here now. Not only to be here now, but to be here now with love and light. My full open heart and energy.
Open your spiritual eyes, your hearts eyes, your minds eyes - see beyond what you see. Feel the love that is always available to you here and now. Our survival brains and physical bodies can and will consume us with thinking only about the past and the future. Close your eyes, get still and connect with your creator. You are in him, he is in you, I imagine similar to what a blood cell is to us. It is in us and we are encoded in it - it is our life blood. It can’t live outside of us and we can’t live without it. We are united.
We are a trinitarian being just like our creator. Mind, body and spirit. We are born of our parents blood, and so on. We have eternal blood and dna circulating through our veins and bodies. This is how our ‘individuality’ and our own eyes and body can deceive us. We see an individual in the mirror and we think this is the truth or the reality. But what if we are so much more. With man it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
When we dream we don’t experience time the same way either. Curious isn’t it? Every night we time travel, we die to ourselves and come back to life. And yet in our waking hours, we think things like talk of visions and dreams is ‘out there’, even though we experience it on a daily basis. We humans are an interesting lot, we can accept fantasy in stories and movies, but in ‘real’ life, nah to strange… But there is a part of us that connects with that in stores and in movies because it is real, maybe even more real than ‘reality’. We try to put God in nice boxes and theology that we can explain, but we just put ourselves in boxes. So interesting that my journey through the Bible and reading it for myself has been a magical mystery tour and has freed me from much of the theology I stood so ‘solidy’ on, that I now know was just religious dogma. But I digress.. God is love, he is the alpha and the omega and you and I get to go along on this amazing ride we call life…

How can you see beyond what you see? Can you open your heart, your spiritual eyes and see visions? Can you practice presence and fully experience the moment and the love in which you exist? Can you let go of your worries and anxieties for a moment and just be with the alpha and the omega?
