Hebrews 12: 26-28
'When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. '
The scripture that most caught my eye in the final, two chapters of Hebrews, talked about the heavens and the earth, shaking, and only what is unshakable will be left. As the main theme of the Bible, and the good news is love, love, and more love. Then the thing that is unshakable, true agape love ,God’s version of love not human love.
How can we become unshakable? How can our love unshakable?
God’s love is evidenced by fruit in one’s life. Fruit such as patience, kindness, gentleness, humbleness, peace, joy. The peace that surpasses all understanding is what I think of unshakable. The characteristics and quality ones God and his love have made it home in your heart, and you are abiding within his love then, even in the most unimaginable circumstances, you were able to remain steadfast and unshakable, not because of your own strength but because of God’s. A lot of time must be spent in stillness, abiding in God. Still is the opposite of shake, right?
The crucifixion of Jesus is, of course, the pinnacle example of this, and the thing that tore the curtain and shook the heavens and the earth into a new reality. Even while being tortured and humiliated and hung on the cross, Jesus’s final words were ‘forgive them, father, for they know not what they do.’
Unshakable love, as demonstrated by Jesus on the cross. What can mirror humans do to one who is possessed and obsessed and abiding in gods, unshakable love. I am not sure I will ever be able to get there, but it seems like a goal worthy of striving for. Jesus role modeled how to walk out faith in love and unshakable love. Love that came alongside those who were weak, downtrodden, ridiculed lame scorned, and challenged people in their paradigms of belief.
He loved people where they were, and as they were just as he loves you and I, But he doesn’t leave us there, he invites and says there is more follow me. Many people did follow him and left behind belongings, relatives lie they are very lives to walk in a new life of unshakable love. He is inviting us to do the same thing. In order to have a new life, you must walk away from your old one. This type of faith must be acted upon in order to receive the promise.
