Hebrews 3:3-6
'But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ. But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself. For every house has a builder, but the one who built everything is God. Moses was certainly faithful in God’s house as a servant. His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal later.
But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ. '
Every house has a builder, God has built everything and we are God’s house. What is in your house? Do you have a ‘whole’ heart and mind? Or a divided heart and mind? Are you unified in your beliefs, values and identity or do you feel like a chameleon? One way here, another way over there, one way on the outside but not that way on the inside?
This is not what God wants for us! He wants us to be whole and aligned, mind body and spirit. A house that is only taken care of on the outside but not on the inside will not last. A house that is only taken care of on the inside but not the outside also will have problems. We need to take care of the whole thing.
Do you have competing desires and beliefs? What are your values? I have recently been taking inventory of my own and realizing that I have a lot of fears that I have been mistakenly thinking of as values. Can you relate?
Have you heard His voice? Has he planted desires, dreams and values in your heart. But you have let them go unattended, neglected, suppressed or in hiding? This will eventually harden our hearts- this is the language used in this chapter. We grow tired of having the internal battle and the only way out of cognitive dissonance is to step up to the plate and do the things you have been neglecting whole heartedly or to just double down on the neglect.
As humans we spend a lot of time negotiating this in our heads and in our actions. We try to have it both or all ways. We try to compromise and find a ‘middle’ way. God doesn’t want a compromised half hearted version of you. He will love you regardless of what you choose. But he desires for you to have a ‘house undivided’. He knows this way of life will also delight and fulfill our souls. He desires to delight in us. He wants to share in the delight.
