📝 Reflection
1 Timothy 5: 1-2, 21
'Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers. Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters. '
I solemnly command you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus and the highest angels to obey these instructions without taking sides or showing favoritism to anyone. '
This going to be short and sweet today… Timothy is getting some wise sage advice from the elder Paul on how to navigate just, fair and discerning leadership. How to avoid favoritism in a nutshell- treat everyone like they are your favorites. Treat older men like your father, treat older women like your mother, and treat younger women and men like your brothers and sisters.
There you go- how to avoid favorites, respect and treat everyone like they are you favorites!
Of course this is a bit more complex than that, but it is a good reminder and a good thing to practice. When we treat everyone with respect and with the kindness that they are a human, which by default does make us actually related when it comes down to it. God made of one blood all human kind! Jesus role modeled this so well. He respected and treated people like they were his favorites.
People can feel the energy behind they way we see them and treat them. Jesus loved others and treated them with respect which invited them to want to live up and into more for themselves. I am really going to practice this more, I definitely can use some work in this area. I can be very impatient and not always kind.
