📝 Reflection
1 Timothy 3: 8-10. 16
'They must be committed to the mystery of the faith now revealed and must live with a clear conscience. Before they are appointed as deacons, let them be closely examined. If they pass the test, then let them serve as deacons. In the same way, deacons must be well respected and have integrity. They must not be heavy drinkers or dishonest with money. '
'Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith : Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.'
We all must go through the probationary period of learning becoming knowing. Many of us are living in confusion thinking we ‘know’ things that we have only just learned about. Our brains get in our way, in this way. Having academic knowledge or awareness of something is not the same thing as knowing something in a way that it is a part of you. KNOWING, know what I mean?
We must be committed to the mystery of the faith. Faith in part is the process of learning becoming knowing, through doing, which seems like a mystery. Humans want it the other way around, we want certainty before investing our time and energy into doing something. The adventure of life is in the becoming which takes a walk of faith into the sometimes uncertain future.
Even many who claim to have faith are not committed to the mystery and actively walking It out. Many of us if we are truly honest with our selves live from a position of being committed to fear. Humans and especially our egos like safety, security and belonging. Being committed to mystery takes faith and courage and needs to be from a place of yearning also.
This probationary period talked about in this chapter is to ensure that those in leadership have genuine faith. Anyone can behave for a time and it doesn’t necessarily have to be from a place of actually desiring to behave that certain way. We can use will power alone for a time. But eventually the truth will usually come out one way or another. We can only go against our conscience and true desires for so long before the truth comes out one way or another.
So it is very wise for the potential leader to go through a probationary period. We all go through probationary periods of sorts, especially when we are trying to incorporate new ways of being into our life. Whether is it adopting new habits or letting go of old ones, we all must go through this period. Many don’t have the patience to endure the whole process and end up being on yo-yo’s with certain behaviors. We have fake-throughs instead of real break throughs to the knowing.
Are you committed to fear or faith? Are you a yearning learner who seeks to actively engage in the process of learning, then doing to become a ‘knower’? This is where knowledge actually becomes power, through the doing and application. This is genuine transformation vs. the will power version that eventually reveals it’s true nature.
