📝 Reflection
Philippians 1: 17-18
“Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me. But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.”
The choice to rejoice. We always always have a choice with our perspective. This doesn’t mean that we have a positive attitude and ignore reality. Quite the contrary. It is choosing to see everything as it is and trusting God. Knowing that He will work everything out. We don’t always have all the facts nor the bigger picture and plan.
Knowing this we can always choose our thoughts, our attitude and our perspective. This is exactly what Paul chose to do. He was realistic and he still chose to see the silver linings and the potential good that could come. It also wasn’t all about him. This is the power of love as well, it frees you to choose your perspective more easily. He didn’t have to force it and sell himself a bill of goods. He really believed it.
He was good come what may. He trusted the great I AM to be in charge and know how things should go. The world according to the creator’s agenda, not Paul’s, not the other preachers despite their motives. We can choose this too. Even in the midst of trouble, suffering, confusion, anger, we can choose to trust that there is a larger plan. That our role is what it needs to be. We matter, even when our ego’s might want to tell us we don’t. We can be tempted to use circumstances as evidence to justify a bad attitude. And that is our choice.
✍🏼Daily Journal Prompt
Is the choice to be negative a choice that serves you or me? We can always ask ourselves if our negative assumptions are true? And then we can recognize that we always have the choice to rejoice in all circumstances. Our perspective is limited and therefor not always correct.
