📝 Reflection
2 Corinthians 3: 17
'For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. '
The new covenant is one of love and grace which is life giving and freeing. The old covenant of Moses was also good, but it was nothing compared to good news of Christ. The law brings condemnation. Paul reminds us how Moses had to put a veil over his face to protect people from the glory of the Lord that was shining through him after coming off of the mountain. He says the law does the same thing and keep our minds and hearts covered and veiled from the truth of grace.
There are so many analogies of the law not only being condemning but being like slavery and captivity. It holds us hostage and in the earning relationship with life, with others and with God. If you are holding onto feelings of condemnation take the veil off and receive God’s grace. He loves you as you are! You don’t have to earn it, in fact you can’t. The more you try the more you become enslaved to trying to be good.
I was having a conversation today and a friend mentioned that one of her favorite verses was from Song of Songs, ‘my beloved is mine and I am his’ and I encouraged her to just be loved. She had never though to look at the word beloved that way - just BE LOVED. That is all that God asks us to do. Take the veil off, the law that condemns and just open our hearts and be loved. From this place we can begin to love God back with awe and wonder, which will humble you. Then when we realize how much God loves us, how precious we are in his sight then we can begin to love ourselves and others. This is the spirit of freedom and the spirit of the Lord.
