No judgement zone here, all are welcome, we are all on a spiritual journey because we are after all spiritual beings having a human experience.

📝 Reflection

 Romans 14:1-4

“Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong. For instance, one person believes it’s all right to eat anything. But another believer with a sensitive conscience will eat only vegetables. Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them. Who are you to condemn someone else’s servants? Their own master will judge whether they stand or fall. And with the Lord’s help, they will stand and receive his approval.”

I love love love this chapter! This is the message of freedom in Love, freedom in Christ and how to live it out on a practical day to day human level. Mind your own business. Carrying over from Chapter 13, the only thing you own anyone is love, not your opinion or judgement. Some of us try to dress up our opinions and judgement in love, but that is all it is. Make believe love. There is no one I know that needs to hear this message more than yours truly! 🙋‍♀️ Despite being repeatedly knocked off of my high horse, I still keep climbing back on. I am hard headed and stubborn that way. Are you?

I think this is the human condition, which is why reminders like this are so needed. Whether you read the Bible or not or believe in a God or not, chapter 14 is a good one for us all to print out and keep on our refrigerator’s. Love fulfills all the other laws. Our only mission here on earth is to know that we are fully loved just as we are and when we let that truth sink in it just can’t help but spill over onto others. The love will come so naturally that judgement will also naturally fall away. In fact, we will become sensitive to others in their journey of freedom and faith and respect it. Keep in mind this is all head knowledge for me right now. I understand it, but I have to walk it out to ‘know’ it.

Love is freedom. It is such a heavy burden to behave and make sure others are behaving. We get to be-loved. When we are loved we will not want to cause others to stumble, we will respect where others are in their own journey of faith and relationship with their creator. I appreciate the practical example he gave about a master/servant or employer/employee. You would not literally walk into someone else’s business and tell them how to run their business and how to treat their employees. You would walk in your own capacity as a guest in that business and respect that relationship. We need to see Christ standing next to all people or better yet in front of them and in front of you.

In this example they are talking about one of their hottest topics du jour, food. Although, in todays world many turn their way of eating into religions as well. How many of you have felt condemned for eating gluten, not eating vegan, paleo, plant based, low carb, intermittent fasting, blah blah blah. How many of you have been sitting in judgement of someone eating a steak or fast food and soda, the horror. 😱 I have been on the same high horse about wine. This was my stumbling block that I had to struggle with in my own conscience and I am tempted to go around and condemn everyone now who drinks. Not just tempted, I went though an ‘evangelical’ phase of trying to convert everyone to stop poisoning themselves. Who do I think I am!  I am freeing myself from that burden.

You do you, I will do me. If you want my help to stop drinking because alcohol is causing you to stumble, call me! But I am not going around anymore with a 📢 as a judge 👩‍⚖️ or little ‘g’ god anymore trying to convict you. Instead, I love you. I have been you. I am more than my behavior. I was more than my problem and so are you. We are limiting ourselves by staying stuck in our ‘sins’. I still have plenty of my own problems, behaviors and sins to work on. The more time and energy I focus on you or anyone else is just a distraction from me become who God is calling me to be. The main thing he is calling me to be is free, loving and a light.

✍🏼Daily Journal Prompt

How can you apply this today? What can you do the next time you are tempted to ‘butt’ in and share your opinion or judgement with what you think someone else should be doing or not doing?
