 Day 14- All are Welcome

📝 Reflection

Exodus 22: 21

“You must not mistreat or oppress foreigners in any way. Remember, you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.”

Wow this concept hit me in so many different ways this morning. First it represents the vibe you should seek out in communities you belong to, or at least in my opinion. A safe place to wrestle out loud with your questions and struggles. Always keep in mind and be sensitive and welcoming to new comers. As foreigners, they are coming in new and getting the vibe that you in part set and being respectful and learning the customs and language. A great community should all would feel welcomed, curious, excited and humble. For those that have been around awhile, do you show excitement, humility and open arms to new comers, or do you want to belong to a private club?  It is a fine balancing act for both ‘foreigner’ and ‘native’ to be welcoming to each other, curious, humble and not compromising the integrity of the community and its guiding principles and beliefs.

I am going to keep it short and sweet today and let this marinate with you how it needs to. I would like to ask how can you be welcoming to a foreigner in your world today or in general? We have so many opportunities especially in our world now with so many that feel ‘other than’. We are all foreigners in some way.

A personal tidbit about me that I may share more of as I journey. I am not ‘from’ anywhere. I grew up moving constantly, new kid in a new town, often new state, new school almost every year, and in a very unstable chaotic family. I really struggle with always feeling like the outsider who doesn’t belong anywhere. So this topic is especially close to my heart. I have been welcomed and I have also been made to feel like an outsider sadly looking onto an exclusive club where I have not been welcomed.

✍🏼Daily Journal Prompt

Are the communities you belong to private clubs or open and welcoming? What can you do to encourage more openness and welcome new people into your world?
