📝 Reflection
Proverbs 27:17
As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend
When you take care of something it not only last longer but it helps take care of you right back. This is a lessen I had to learn the hard way unfortunately. This is one the consequences or things that I didn’t learn growing up always on the move. I didn’t have a stable home, we almost always sold all or most our belongings every year when we moved, new school, new people. I never real had any thing long enough to know what it mean to take care of it properly.
Wow, I just had a break through there as I was typing that🤯. I am going to have to do some more digging there. God is so good!
Anyway, I love this whole chapter with the constant theme of taking care of things. Taking care of things doesn’t just liking, being grateful for, or ‘having’ things. It takes time to take care of things, relationships, and ourselves. It isn’t all fun positive things either. Sometimes it requires, getting dirty, having tough conversations, and it takes tiiimmmeee. Did I mention that already??
I know as a business owner we can be so focused on getting new clients and growing etc.. that we can neglect our current clients. We do this in our own homes and lives too. We neglect our spouses, our family members, friends etc.. We get so busy, it is easy to loose track of time and before we know it we haven’t talked to that treasured friend for a months or even years. Anyone?? I know I am not alone in this. It takes intention, it takes time, it takes effort and work.
I am going to let few more verses of this chapter speak this message for themselves:
10 Never abandon a friend - either yours or your father’s. When disaster strikes, you own’t have to ask your brother for assistance. It’s better to go to a neighbor than to a brother who lives far away.
12 A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
15-16 A quarrelsome wife is as annoying as constant dripping on a rainy day. Stopping her complains is like trying to stop the wind or trying to hold something with greased hands. (Substitute person for wife)
18 As workers who tend a fig tree are allowed to eat the fruit, so workers who protect their employer’s interests will be rewarded.
19 As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person
20 Just as Death and Destruction are never satisfied, so human desire is never satisfied.
23-27. Know the state of your flocks, and put your heart into caring for your herds, for riches don’t last forever, and the crown might not be passed to the next generation. After the hay is harvested and the new crop appears and the mountain grasses are gathered in, your sheep will provide wool for clothings, and your goats will provide the price of a field. And you will have enough goats’ milk for yourself, your family, and your servant girls.
