Revelation 13: 18
'Wisdom is needed here. Let the one with understanding solve the meaning of the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666.'
This chapter had dragons and multiple beasts, violent imagery, and blaspheming of God. Obvious references to satan which we all know the numbers 666 as the mark of the beast. But it is really interesting that before this is said, that it is introduced by the words ‘wisdom is needed here’. The numbers also say that it is not just the number of the beast but the number of a man.
Back in the earlier chapters of Revelation we are introduced to the sevenfold spirit of God. Humans of course are not God, we are less than. Seven is also known as the number of perfection. So maybe it is as simple as six represents the imperfect nature of God, we are made in the image of God, but we are not God, we are below.
Let’s go back to Revelation 5 for a moment: 'And they sang in a mighty chorus: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered— to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.” ‘ These are seven words describing the sevenfold spirit of God that he sends into every part of the world. Let’s take away the word wisdom.
When man focuses only on power, riches, strength, honor, glory and blessing he is no better than a beast. But all of these things are so enticing and intoxicating. It can lead men to think they have wisdom, but really they are beastly. Our ability to think and access our God given wisdom to acknowledge our place in the universe and to know God is what sets us above the animals. When we are prideful and believe that we have no need of a God, we are foolish and arrogant. We are not only missing out on the fullness of what God has planned and designed for us but we are worshipping at the alter of our own desires and belong to the world. Our desires and this world will take us with out godly wisdom!
As of the time of this writing, it is the week of Christmas in 2022. I can’t believe we are almost done with our journey and adventure of going through the whole bible day by day! Thank you so much for joining me and rising and shining together! Just over a week to go and finishing this wild mysterious book of Revelation together!
